Must be true. This is my buddy Scott. We get together in a small group with the wives and meet once a month for breakfast or lunch. Today, we had coffee at Starbucks. Scott is a button-down, Evangelical, Republican lawyer-type guy. Total opposite of me in so many respects. I think I had a tie on once last year. I haven't had a white shirt on since I left IBM (too many years ago to think about). I've never voted Republican. But, we share a passion for the gospel for the spiritual journey we find ourselves on and for doing our parts in the stories we find ourselves in.

I love it. We just had a party the other night, and one of our best friends is like this...total opposite of us. He's a Democrat, political science professor, writer of college texts, New York Jew. I'm Republican, lifelong southern Catholic. He came in costume as Richard Nixon. Gotta love it. I love friendships that can transcend all those externals and get to the heart. Nice of you to commemorate the friendship on your blog.

I have always had a pretty eclectic group of friends. I'm a pretty strange guy myself. But, being black and liberal and living in the neighborhoods I've lived in, attending the schools I've attended and working in the jobs I've worked in have put me in close contact with people who are very different from me.

Having friends with such different points of view does make life much more interesting than just hanging out with people like myself (which I have never really done).

Peace,
Brian
